I have been packing with llamas in Alaska for almost 40 years. My llamas are tethered out on a lead rope in the field for weeks at a time. This style of halter sold by Quality Llama Products is the best llama halter in the industry. I highly recommend it for anyone who owns llamas and for all applications. Look no further. It used to be called the "X style" halter. Now they call it the "grazing halter". It excels as compared to other halters in that it allows enough freedom of jaw movement. It is clean and simple in design with no unnecessary hardware (KISS principle). I carry moleskin so that I can apply patches to the llamas face if there is any sign of hair loss. Never leave a halter on a llama when it is at home in the pasture and doesn't need it. All halters will cause soreness if left on the llama long enough. Most mature llamas will need the extra large size. To tether your llamas out use a 9/16" diameter twisted poly ground line solidly anchored at both ends. This ground line lays flat on the ground and is stretched as taught as possible to prevent entanglement. Use prussic loops at intervals to attach each llamas lead rope to this ground line. To move the llamas to new pasture simply pick up one anchor and swivel the ground line around to re-anchor. Use a 9 foot 3/4 inch diameter soft braided nylon lead rope (with a swivel snap) to reduce the chance of injury if the llama gets tangled. Make sure that the swivel snap is of the very best quality and has a very strong spring.
